Quick Take
Beijing Olympics (Getty Images) Olympic struggle: USA boxing hit a new low. After years of declining performances, the U.S. takes home just one bronze from the Beijing Games. Bart Barry talks to longtime coach Kenny Weldon who says an overhaul needs to start with a weight shift. Column

Whipping boy? The furor over Oscar De La Hoya's farewell fight is just the latest firestorm over his Golden Boy Promotions. But does GBP deserve the heat? Michael Swann checks with some insiders and the answer is, not all of it. Column

Capitol Hill controversy: It sure seemed Anthony Thompson had a fight against Ishmail Arvin won before a gash ended it, with Thompson losing. An injustice? Probably. But Michael Swann says while there may be a place for replay, the critics will never be silenced. Column

B.J. Flores and the fortunes of prizefighting: The dog days of the boxing calendar were supposed to be brightened by a B.J. Flores appearance. Only it didn't happen. And the circumstances surrounding the non-fight do well to illustrate the uncertainty of the game, Bart Barry says. Column

Cintron's move; Hatton's delusions: It was recently announced that DiBella Entertainment has signed former welterweight titlist Kermit Cintron. This would appear to be a coup for DBE as the 27-year-old Cintron (29-2, 27 KO) is a devastating power puncher still in his prime who has suffered both of his losses to Antonio Margarito, certainly no disgrace. Continue

Examining the brothers Marquez: A couple of years ago, Juan Manuel Marquez and his younger brother Rafael reemerged from the wilderness. As the official story went, trainer Nacho Beristain, though a tremendous sculptor of champions, wasn't much of a matchmaker or accountant. Continue

Clottey takes title: Ghana's Joshua Clottey claimed the vacant IBF welterweight title Saturday by stopping American Zab Judah in the ninth round. It was the first major title for the 31-year-old Clottey and inflicted a fourth defeat from six results on the sliding Judah, formerly the unified world champion. Full Story

Arum's grudge nixes Margarito-Williams II: Paul Williams and Antonio Margarito (in no particular order) are the two best welterweights in the world. But we might not get to see them fight again in the ring with Bob Arum's animosity toward the Williams camp deep-sixing any chance for a rematch, Robert Morales says. Full Story

Hey HBO -- drop Lennox: Boxing broadcasts are simple -- one voice to describe the action, another to chime in with explanations and analysis. So why does HBO insist on three announcers, including the painful Lennox Lewis? Get rid of him, Michael Swann says. Full Story

Boxing's most admirable: He showed humility in victory while being upstaged by his opponent. A participant in the three best fights of the past three years -- and winner of two -- Israel Vazquez has distinguished himself in and out of the ring as an admirable combatant, Bart Barry says. Column

Oscar De La Hoya, boxing's biggest star, will announce Thursday that he will meet pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao on Dec. 6, two sources close to the fight told ESPN.com.

Top Rank's Bob Arum, whose company promotes Pacquiao, would not confirm a deal was in place for what would be the year's biggest fight, but he did tell ESPN.com that De La Hoya would host a media teleco ...(more)

I was thinking last night that this would be a great time for Mayweather to announce a come back fight.  One last fight to shut everyone up, and I am included in here,  once and for all.

I believe that Mayweather is capable of beating Margo because he should be able to keep away from harms way the entire fight with his superior speed and boxing skills. I see Margo ch ...(more)

I know the weight is a huge jump for Pacquiao but I think he will beat the aging De La Hoya who gets by simply by name recognition.
